Planning a Camino de Santiago stage used to mean a spreadsheet, a guidebook and some guesswork. This is the whole flow in Caminantes, start to finish, in under a minute.
What happens in the video
- Pick a route. Caminantes covers 10 full Camino routes, including the Francés, Portugués, del Norte and Primitivo, each loaded with its complete path.
- Choose your starting point. Every stage you plan from there appears in your list along with its elevation profile, a walking time estimate, and the distance.
- Check the day before you walk it. The Caminantes home screen shows how many kilometres that day is, the route details, the terrain you'll be crossing, and a more detailed elevation breakdown than most Camino apps bother with.
- Start walking. Once a stage looks right, swipe to start it and Caminantes tracks distance, pace and elevation live as you go.

Each of our planned stages will appear in here along with elevation, time estimate, and distance. Common questions
How long does it actually take to plan a stage?
About as long as the video: choose a route, choose where you are starting from, and Caminantes lays out the stage with its distance, elevation and terrain already worked out. Adjusting a stage, dragging it longer or shorter, takes a few seconds more.
Do I need to already know the route to use this?
No. Caminantes covers 10 full routes, Francés, Portugués, del Norte, Primitivo and more, so you pick from the map rather than needing to arrive with a plan already worked out.
Does this work without a data connection?
Yes. Once a route is loaded it is cached on the phone, so stage planning and the elevation and terrain details work with no signal, which is most of the Camino.
